Description
This trail begins from the parking area just across from the DISD Environmental Center. This preserve is managed by DISD, and you can expect to pass groups of school children on this main trail if you go during school hours. Nonetheless, this trail is a wonderful escape from the hot sun as it is shaded for the majority of its journey.
The path is wide and was paved many years ago, meaning it is a smooth surface and easy to follow, but has had fair amounts of sediment that have washed over top of the path through the years. You travel through mostly old post oak trees that provide great shade. Other trails originate off of this main trail. The trail finally dumps you just short of a wonderful small lake that is home to many migratory birds and other waterfowl. There is a small dirt path that leads you down to the water's edge where you can enjoy the view, or even cast a line and try your hand at some fishing.
