If your family can manage the scrambling, this trail is short and offers great views!
Description
Carris Hill trail (yellow blaze) is one of many routes in Norvin Green State forest and is intended to be pieced together with additional trails in the State Forest. Enjoy a multitude of switchbacks, huge boulder deposit from glaciers long ago, and incredible views of the Wanaque Reservoir with the New York City skyline as a backdrop (on a clear day).
About 0.2 miles into the trail, be sure to go off trail onto a huge boulder outcrop to take in a great view of the reservoir.
The trail intersects with
Lower Trail at the bottom of the hill.
The recommended route is downhill, north to south, as the grade is steep at times. There are also a few sections of minor rock scrambling to be aware of.
Flora & Fauna
Typical northern NJ woodland, and you can almost always spot circling vultures above the reservoir.
