Description
If you are looking for a scenic hike in the Blue Mountains that takes you a bit further from the crowded tourist spots into the more remote areas of the Blue Mountains, this track is a great option. This trail extends from Katoomba to the Ruined Castle on the other side of Jamison Valley.
The track starts along the base of the cliffs near Leura and travels past the iconic Three Sisters and past the base of several waterfalls, presenting a different view of these sights from the valley floor. At times, you'll be following the remnants of an old horse-drawn coal tramway. You can connect to Federal Pass at four junctions, each involving a tough descent or climb on a steep trail or staircase.
After about four miles of skirting the cliffs, the trail will turn south, and the going will get a bit easier as you are now past most of the steep climbs and descents. From here, the trail continues onto the Ruined Castle, a rock formation that offers great views over the valley as far as Wentworth Falls and Katoomba. From here, you can either retrace your steps back the way you came or continue on the Mount Solitary Walking Track for a longer outing.
Flora & Fauna
Eucalyptus, coachwood, sassafrass, and lilly pilly. Lyre birds, sulphur-crested cockatoo, and bell birds.
