Family Friendly
No need to complete the whole trail, as any distance out and back makes a nice hike.
The trail passes by lots of private property as it climbs into Hunter Creek, but it is clearly marked and easy to follow. Please do not leave the trail and cross private property as this could jeopardize access in the future.
Overview
A very popular trail starting from just outside downtown Aspen. The hike travels alonside Hunter Creek and crosses several small bridges. Expect a steep and rocky incline to start, but after the first mile the gradient lessens and the hiking becomes easier. Go as far as you like on this trail for a pleasant out-and-back hike from town.
Description
This is an easy trail for the most part, once past the initial climb in the first half mile. There are quite a few switchbacks and offshoots to other trails with ample opportunity to explore around Hunter Creek. Use the Hiking Project
Hiking Project mobile app or download the map in onX Backcountry to keep your bearings about you.
This trail dead-ends toward the boundary with the Hunter-Frying Pan Wilderness, making it an out-and-back unless you turn off on another connecting trail somewhere closer to the trailhead on your return.
Flora & Fauna
Deer, elk, moose, bear, lots of aspen groves.
