Description
This is a gentling climbing trail that starts at Picklesimer Fields and terminates onto the
Art Loeb Trail to the south. The best way to reach the trail is by parking at the Pisgah Center for Wildlife Education and Fish Hatchery, and taking the western section of the
Cat Gap Loop Trail #120. The blaze for the Butter Gap Trail #123 is Blue.
The section between
Cat Gap Loop Trail #120 and
Long Branch Trail #116 is open to mountain bikers, which use part of this trail as a loop. Once south of the
Long Branch Trail #116, the trail is exclusively for those on foot.
This trail moseys along Grogan Creek as it gently climbs. There are nice grassy areas and plenty of places to explore for wildflowers. Along the way you'll find some nice cascades and falls on Grogan Creek as you climb upward towards its headwaters.
The last 1.5 miles of the trail begins to climb more aggressively, as you ascend toward Butter Gap and join the Art Loeb trail.
Flora & Fauna
