Description
Starting off the Anawhata Road, hikers will find this well-marked trail as it moves through open farm land. Marked with orange tags for the first few kilometers, follow the blazed trail as it descends into a steep downhill section of native NZ bush.
The first part of the descent features a trail of hard packed clay. Be prepared for plenty of ups and downs on this route, as there is a descent/ascent into and out of one valley followed by a descent into another valley before one large and long climb to the peak of Kuataika at around 265m.
Enjoy your time at the summit, as just after the peak, this trail continues at a steady descent to the Wainamu Junction.
Flora & Fauna
Open farmland with native grasses and native New Zealand bush can be observed along the way.
