Description

Getting there: Hike up Poly Canyon Road for a little over a mile. Pass the design village, farmhouse, and two gates. Directly after the second gate, the turnoff for Tough and Dirty will be on the left.

The Trail: The trail climbs quickly from Poly Canyon Road paralleling a fence line. This initial climb is pretty rough singletrack and definitely disrupts the rhythmic hiking of Poly Canyon Road. It is certainly better to ascend then descend. At the top of the hill, turn right away from the fence, and the trail turns to doubletrack for a half mile or so. This portion has nice views of the canyon below, but is often tracked up by grazing cattle.

As the trail turns back to singletrack, its quality vastly improves. The flowing, fun trail continues through a sparse oak grove and has great views of the rolling Irish Hills. It descends a ridgeline and rejoins Poly Canyon Road.
