Description
This is the eastern portion of the newly expanding Park to Playa trail system. The area is very lush soon after rains, and there are some nice views of downtown LA on a clear day from the higher elevations. It is a clean track except for animal holes, erosion, and the like. You'll also encounter friendly folks and dog-walkers. (There is some street parking at the eastern trailhead or half way intersection.)
The trail rises steadily if one starts from the east and finishes at the parking lot where one can take the stairs up to Rueben Ingold Parkway, or across the street to Norman O. Houston Park, or onward to Kenneth Hahn State Recreation Area with its trail system. Soon these trails will connect to the Baldwin Hills Scenic Overlook trails and the the Ballona Creek Trail to take you all the way to the beach after ~14 miles. Signage and distance markers are going up. The new parking lot has benches, water, edible fruit trees, and native plants by design.
Flora & Fauna
