Family Friendly Kids will enjoy this trail's access to the river, its smooth tread, and its manageable length.

Eno River State Park is closed only on Christmas Day.

Description

This trail is a great way to access the backcountry trails in Eno River State Park and get a nice hike through the hills and the river bottoms. From the Piper-Cox Museum parking lot, follow the trail downhill until you come upon the Eno River. Lots of folks stop here to get in the water or check out the rapids. Head right and you'll have to make a choice: stay by the river or head uphill. Go right to continue uphill. Soon, you are in thick forest with a good canopy. You'll continue uphill for a half mile before you slowly drift back down in elevation. On the right, you'll soon meet up with Ridge Trail. Beyond that, continue downhill to eventually enter the floodplain of the river. If you want it, here's your chance to cross Buckquarter Creek on a bridge to access the Holden Mill Trail. Passing the bridge, the trail begins to circle back around until you come down to the Eno River. Enjoy the shade of the big sycamores until you break into open riverside and return back to where you started.

This trail's tread is primarily even, but it does sport a few loose cobbles, so keep your wits about you.
