Family Friendly A short distance and a scenic hike.

Overview

A great hike along a scenic creek that is a great intro to the park for families or beginners.

Description

The Gristmill Trail uses the old roadway that connected the John Wesley Hall Gristmill to Eastern Valley Road as early as 1870.

During the Civil War, this route was used by the 8th Iowa Cavalry to attack the Tannehill Ironworks.

The gristmill at the beginning of the trail is still used, and meal produced in the mill can be purchased in the James Scott-Young Store near the main parking lot at the park entrance.

Flora & Fauna

Pine, oak, elm, deer, squirrels, chipmunks, turtles (in the creek).
