Description

The trail follows the historic Augusta Canal that is diverted from the Savannah River. This is an easy path that is wide and paved, allowing for both foot and bike traffic. There are numerous historic areas along the trail and amazing architecture to be seen on the old brick buildings dating back to the Civil War.

The northern terminus of the path is at the Augusta Canal Headgates and Locks and the southern terminus is at the corner of Walton Way and 13 St.

Flora & Fauna

We saw water turtles and a river otter. During the warmer months, there should be a lot of small wildlife and birds to be seen. Bugs too!!

a lot of fun hugging the river all the way to downtown but turned back at the dead end on the purple line because of unfinished construction. 13.1mi — 1h 50m
