Family Friendly The overnight shelter near the junction with the Appalachian Trail at Cow Camp Gap, gives a six to seven-mile trip for a great two-day introduction to backpacking.

Description

This blue-blazed side trail connects with the Appalachian Trail at Cow Camp Gap and Hog Camp Gap. Paired with the adjacent Appalachian Trail, it makes an intermediate loop from the parking area at Hog Camp Gap.

Both this trail and the Appalachian Trail have cleared wildlife areas that provide views of the surrounding peaks. This trail also passes through the old, rock "hog walls" from long abandoned farms.

This Trail is best done as the first part of a loop with the return being along the AT heading north over the meadow and back to the parking area

Beautiful trail going through multiple forest types. Beautiful backcountry camping. Combined with the AT over Cole/Cold Mountain, gorgeous loop.
