Description
From the junction of the
Hailstone Trail and
Ed Riggs Trail, turn to follow the signs up the Mushroom Rock Trail through the forest. The trail meanders along the side of the hill, trending mostly upward, with occasional views to the rock spires nearby. Especially worth seeing is the Mushroom Rock, denoted by a sign - although the views are better from the trail before the sign.
After about 0.75 miles, the trail will enter a section of burned forest. The trail continues over low, rolling hills between the blackened trunks, with new vegetation growing out of the sun-baked soil.
At 1.25 miles from the Ed Riggs /
Hailstone Trail Junction, the trail junctions with the
Big Balanced Rock Trail (left / straight) and the Inspiration Point Trail (right). This is the official end of the Mushroom Rock Trail, although the hike can be extended to access Inspiration Point or loop around to the parking area via the
Big Balanced Rock Trail.
