USFS fire road connecting Botanical Trail and Shooters. Flat-ish and hard packed...a good place to open the throttle.

Description

This is a segment of T.V. Tower Road connecting Botanical Trail to Shooters. The entire forest road links the West Cuesta Ridge Trail to Cerro Alto in a scenic route that someone should totally try and upload to the site. The road is very wide, free of debris, and hard-packed. Although uninteresting, this connector offers fantastic views and stunning scenery. If you are hiking from Poly Canyon Road it offers a fantastic respite from the rocky trails and mud during the rainy season.

The trail begins at the very prominent T.V. towers for which it is named. Coming from Botanical Trail take an immediate right at the towers and continue on a relatively flat section of road. The road has some gentle rollers but is largely downhill. You'll pass multiple side trails that eventually join back up with the road after 1/4 mile or so. Because of these the turnoff for Shooters can be easy to miss. The turnoff for shooters is not marked, but you'll see the road take a sharp left away from San Luis Obispo and head towards Cuesta Pass and see the trail about 150 vertical feet below you on the right. Take this turnoff/side trail. There is a USFS iron hitching post, pass a small flat parking area, hike down a very steep hill, and turn right past a gate that says "no motorcycles". You are now on the Shooters Trail.
