Description
Use the Granite Ridge Trail to transfer between the west end of
Molly Moon Trail #991-2 and the mid-section of
Lady Moon Trail #985 at the eastern terminus. It's a great trail for a through-hike between Molly Lake and the Elkhorn trailhead - mostly gradual, and not very busy once you pass Molly Lake.
From the small Molly Lake trailhead, hike downhill until you reach the meadow with the lake.
From there, continue east along the south shore to find the old logging road. Stay straight or right/east when the trail branches at a sign for
Molly Moon Trail #991-2.
You'll go through a gate on an uphill. From here, the views are fairly unremarkable. The trail is easy to follow and stays fairly dry after the snow melts except at a small low point where water pools.
Near
Lady Moon Trail #985, you'll go through another gate that's closed to keep cattle in, followed by signs for Lady Moon Trail and Granite Ridge. From here, you can double back on the same trail, head north for the Lady Moon trailhead, or go south toward Elkhorn Creek Trailhead.
Flora & Fauna
Moose seem to like the Molly Lake area. Watch for cattle and their byproducts between the two gates!
