Description
From the Falls Hut, you jump right into the trail with some steep built-in steps while passing the upper tiers of the Routeburn Falls. Enjoy the views of the valley then continue on the trail. You are above the tree line, and the views are expansive with tussock grass and rocky cliffs that surround you are you ascend above the creek. Soon you turn the corner, and the deep blue colors of Lake Harris are found tucked into the mountain. Continue on, skirting the lake until you arrive at the shelter. Harris Shelter doesn't have bunks or heat but does have water and a long-drop toilet.
Flora & Fauna
Southern Beech forests, Kea and Kaka parrots, Bellbird, Grey warbler, South Island Robin, Fantail and Brown creeper, Lancewood plants, Kiwi (you'll hear them but probably not see them), invasive Australian possums.
