Family Friendly
There is a children's playground at the middle entrance. Trails are wide, easy to navigate, and enjoyable for all ages.
The Gordon River Greenway is open from 6:00 am to 10:00 pm daily.
Description
This section of the Gordon River Greenway Trails is a 10-foot wide boardwalk traversing a white mangrove forest. The trail is multi-use, so bikes, strollers, skates and other non-motorized vehicles are permitted. Restroom facilities and water are available onsite.
During the creation of the Gordon River Greenway Park, whenever possible, public access infrastructure was built within degraded or marginal habitat. Because development of the parking lots occurred along the outside edges of the Park, where development was already adjacent, large contiguous habitats were preserved. The parking lots, trails, and boardwalks were built primarily within habitats that were heavily infested with invasive, exotic plants. Some sections of the boardwalk were even re-routed so they would cut through invasive, exotic trees instead of native, wetland forests.
Flora & Fauna
At the very beginning of the trail on the north side near the parking area, pileated woodpeckers are often seen. Birds are the primary wildlife seen at the Greenway, with many species of wading birds found near the river. Bobcats, coyotes, otters, raccoons and alligators are also occasionally seen.
