Description

This trail begins with a climb up grassy slopes with views of the Paine Massif and the Patagonian steppe. As you enter the Rio Ascencio valley, the mountain sides get steeper and you enter a dense, ancient forest. Occasional breaks in the trees reveal incredible views of the valley.

Descend to cross the Rio Ascencio on a bridge and pass the Refugio Chileno. Continue through dense forest along the river valley until you reach the junction that takes you to the Base Las Torres Trail.

Flora & Fauna

Lenga beech and Antarctic beech trees in the forests.

Really struggled. Took frequent and some long breaks. Completed walk to trailhead from visitor center, Ascension trail, and Base Torres trail. 13.5mi

Mirador de las Torres is essential. Stay at least an hour to see sun if you arrive during a cloudy period. 8mi
