Family Friendly
While the full trail might be a bit much for most youngsters, taking parts of this path make for an excellent excursion for the whole family.
Description
This trail starts at North Meridian Street, but most will use it as a branch off the Monon Trail, where it departs immediately after crossing Fall Creek. There is a short leg that continues east, but the length of the trail goes west following Fall Creek until reaching Fort Benjamin Harris State Park.
This is a paved urban trail running through a greenway as it cuts through the city of Indianapolis. The trail is great for running, hiking, and biking, though there are a few places which can be muddy after a rain. "Fort Ben" as it's locally known is a great reward at the end of the 10-mile trek.
Fort Benjamin has its own trail system and is an Indiana State Park. There is no attendant at the Fall Creek entrance, but a pass is required to visit the park. A day pass or yearly state park pass can be obtained at the main gate of the park which is a short ways from the Fall Creek entrance.
