Overview
This ridgeline hike is a steep, nonstop uphill that rewards you with gorgeous views. From the top of
Snively's Ridge, experience 360° views of the Pacific Ocean, Carmel, Garland Ranch, and the Rancho San Carlos Mountains.
Need to Know
Bring a sizeable amount of water, as it can get quite hot on the ridge!
Description
From the very beginning,
Snively's Ridge Out-and-Back traverses steep and uneven footing on its way to the ridgeline and the mountain top. Starting at the parking area on Fairway II Court, follow the wide path as it switchbacks its way near the golf course to the forest above and the beginning of the
Huff 'N' Puff trail.
Follow
Huff 'N' Puff for a short time until it reaches a three-way intersection with
Horseshoe and
Mucklehead. At this juncture, veer left onto
Mucklehead before it quickly becomes
Snively's Ridge trail. Once on this hike's namesake trail, you'll begin the steep, sizable climb on uneven footing to the summit of
Snively's Ridge.
Along the climb to the actual summit, you'll encounter a false summit, as well as a rolling hill and a view of the CFD Forest Fire Outlook Tower on a nearby summit. Upon reaching the top of
Snively's Ridge, pat yourself on the back and enjoy the view! For an even better view, head past the summit to the end of the mapped hike for phenomenal views of Carmel, the Carmel Valley, the Pacific Ocean, and the Rancho San Carlos Mountains.
When you've had a snack and enjoyed the view, simply return the way you came, but watch out for that uneven footing!
