Description

The access road can be a bit rough (high clearance suggested) but the trail and solitude are worth it. This classic trail connects the Middle Fork Valley up to the PCT as it curves around Summit Chief Mountain. The trail largely gains elevation gently until mile 7.5, where you come to Lake Ivanhoe. While the lake is cool and refreshing, the grade really steepens afterwards. Once you've reached the trail's high point, there is a steep descent to the PCT.
