Description

From the TJ Corral trailhead, hike over the gentle slopes of the desert mesa before descending down Little Bear Canyon. About 4 miles in, the trail meets up with the Middle Fork of the Gila River at a large flat camping area.

Here, you'll get your first taste of the geologic scenery along the Middle Fork Canyon. Cliffs of tuff periodically tower 300 feet over the canyon floor. Continue upstream as the trail meanders with the river. Plan on getting wet. There are frequent river crossings, roughly every half mile. Trekking poles are essential for safe crossing when the water is high, and water shoes or sandals are recommended.

Jordan Hot Springs can be found on the north side of the river (right side looking upstream) around 33.292838, -108.269390. You may continue hiking upstream as long as you like. Ample camping spots can be found along the river banks for overnight trips.

Went to Jordan Hot Springs. Many creek crossings. Forgot chacos, lost sandal, so had to take on and off boots. Hot springs were heaven. 1 other group 12.7mi — 9h 30m
