Description
Take your time making your way down the Badger Springs Wash to the Aqua Fria River. Though the river is dry most of the year, this hike is still a pleasant outing. The route leads through desert landscapes, and located about 1 hour north of Phoenix, Arizona; this is an accessible route.
To get to the trailhead, take exit 156 off of I-17, and follow Badger Springs Road until you reach the parking area.
At the end of the Badger Wash Trail, you'll come to a junction with a wash on the left-hand side and a large rock outcropping. Near the top of this rock outcropping, you can spot a very good example of early American Indian petroglyphs.
One of the best times to hike the Badger Spring Trail in late May or early June when the spring flowers are in bloom.
