This route is easy to navigate, and close to home, making it a great option for the whole family.
Overview
The
Main Loop Trail, also referred to as Colonel Francis Beatty Park Loop, is a 4.3-mile, moderate trail that features a lake and is accessible year-round and is primarily used for hiking, walking, trail running and mountain biking - dogs are welcome as well, as long as they're on a leash.
The trail is a very popular mountain biking trail so those on foot will find themselves stepping to the side to allow bikers to pass. It is a fairly easy trail to navigate with little elevation gain. There are even some nice hammock-ing spots along the way.
Description
The
Main Loop (Colonel Francis Beatty Loop) winds around the park passing by the fields, and along the lake. During your outing, the trail crosses a creek and meanders through the forest.
In some places, there are other trails connected to the main trail, which are favored by mountain bikers. A great starting point for any outing is located near Lake Pointe Hall beside the picnic area - pack a lunch or dinner, take a hike, and then come back and enjoy the sun setting over the lake from a cozy picnic spot.
