Description

You connect up with this trail off of Laguna Torre. The initial mile+ goes through thick Southern Beech forest and holds most of the elevation gain of the trail. After leveling off, you continue through alpine meadows and more forest. Soon, you come to the deep blue waters of the Laguna Madre and Laguna Hija lakes. Take a drink and skip stones and then continue on the trail that hangs just above the marshy lake bottoms.

On a clear day, you'll soon turn a corner see Fitz Roy rising magnificently above you. Continue across the marshy bottom on a few wooden bridges until you make your way back into the forest and find signs for camping at Campamento Poincenot.

Flora & Fauna

Birds include Condor, Buzzard- Eagle, Magellanic Woodpecker, Torrent duck, and Burrowing Parrots. In addition, you can see the Huemul (tiny elusive deer), and the Patagonian fox and puma.
