Description
Middle Mountain Loop is at the heart of the GUTS trail system. The "terraced stacked loop" design of this trail complex is readily visible here. Trails are densely packed and twist/fold back on each other as they traverse the grade in order to climb up and around the mountainside. Be sure to look down and count the number of terraced trail passes - it will make you appreciate the gain in elevation.
This trail is fun in both directions, with stacked three-way intersections establishing the natural CW and CCW directionality.
Strava users take note: these multi-use recreational trails are frequently less than 20' lateral separation - so your recreational GPS devices recording in one second intervals with three meter accuracy inevitably will provide fickle data under the dense forest canopy. Please do not straighten the trail or deviate from the purpose built trail.
A nice bench awaits you on the east side of this loop, making the perfect place to appreciate your surroundings.
Please do not shortcut the trail levels by cutting into the woods between terraced levels. The trail system is a sustainable design for limited maintenance - and making your own way straight downhill/uphill is not a sustainable form of travel nor a long term best practice.
Middle Mountain has two directional access trails, and leads to a series of three-way intersections for the
Peak Attack and
Wild West extensions.
Flora & Fauna
Several red fox and a blue heron were spotted during construction.
