The gate from Louie's Landing is closed from December through August but the road is very easy to navigate in order to reach the Jeep Trail.
The road is gravel and well kept and therefore it is a pleasant place to hike year round with a grassland on one side and the river on the other. Ospreys and Black Terns are often seen along this section of the river, and, in recent years, Bald Eagles have become more frequent.
