Description
This trail can be used in either direction but many choose to save it for last (north to south) on the
Eagle Rock Loop as it provides beautiful views out across Topanga Canyon and the Santa Monica Mountains. As mapped, the singletrack trail starts from the Eagle Junction and snakes through an intact chaparral ecosystem with sagebrush and other woody shrubs.
From the Eagle Junction, the trail stretches a little over a mile before reaching the Musch Camp campground. This area has eight tent sites for backpackers at $7/night. The campground features amenities like flush toilets, picnic tables, and potable, drinking water. These sites cannot be reserved online and are available on a first-come-first-served basis.
On your hike, this spot makes for a great lunch or snack location where you can refill any water bottles for the rest of the journey. Continue from the campsites to the southwest through a field and you'll eventually come to a bench along the trail with 2/3 of a mile to go.
Take a load off for a minute and snap your final pictures of the view over Topanga Canyon before heading between a small, shaded ravine and crossing a field as you finish the trail at the paved road. Turn left to return to the parking area at Trippet Ranch a couple hundred yards away.
