Description

What the Blue Blazes Whiskey Still Trail lacks in length, it certainly makes up for in allowing visitors to jump back in time to an era when whiskey stills lined many a creek or stream in this part of the country.

From the parking lot across the road from the Catoctin Mountain Visitor Center, look for a blue-blazed trail diving into the woods just before the bridge. Follow the trail through dense hardwood forests for only a few minutes before reaching the site of an actual whiskey still. Along your way, be sure to stop and read the informative signs detailing the rich whiskey history in this area, as well as the local stream ecology.

During June and September on this trail, the National Park Service offers lectures on whiskey making and the overall demands brought by living in this secluded, mountain environment. Be sure to check the park calendar for dates and times.
