This trail connects T.V. Tower Road with the Eucs MTB park (which is also at an intersection with
Morning Glory Trail,
Elevator Trail, and Red Dog).
To get there, you'll need to hike one mile on T.V. Tower Road from the West Cuesta
Ridge Trail. When the road splits take a left and continue for a few hundred yards. If traveling from
Botanical Trail, take a right onto T.V. Tower Road and continue for 1.8 miles. When the road forks take a right and go down a very steep downhill section.
From the Cuesta Ridge side, the trailhead has a National Forest gate and signs marking the trail (it also says no motor vehicles). From the Eucs Park, trail finding is slightly more difficult. From the main park, head up a service road that quickly turns into
Morning Glory Trail. After a hundred yards or so, there is a small trail on your right, this is Shooters. There is no signage.
Shooters is smooth singletrack that is the crown jewel of the Stenner Springs Open Space/Eucs MTB park. If looping this trail with
Morning Glory Trail,
Botanical Trail, and T.V. Tower Road, I highly recommend descending Shooters and ascending Morning Glory due to the rocky nature of the latter trail. The trail has multiple waterfalls that are pretty impressive within a week or so of a storm. Also, there are small shrubs along the trail rather than larger brush or trees so it offers awesome views of the foothills below.
The best time to be on this trail is in the spring soon after a rainstorm. The trail drains very well and doesn't get muddy like the lower foothills in SLO, there are a few beautiful waterfalls along the trail, and the hills below will be lush and green. During the summer and fall this route can get very hot as it is further inland and exposed.
