Description

The Clinton River Trail is a popular rail-trail that passes through Rochester Hills, Pontiac, and finally ends in Sylvan Lake. The corridor used to be used primarily as a rail line, but as rail transportation fell out of favor, the corridor was converted to a multi-use path. This trail has no rocks or roots, which makes for an especially pleasant hiking experience. While there are portions that consist of sidewalk or pavement, the majority of the route is unpaved. Be aware, this trail is popular and there are a good amount of bikers, walkers and runners who utilize the trail. There are a few offshoots, but it is pretty easy to follow signs to stay on the Clinton River Trail.

Along most of the route, you'll be in the shade following along the Clinton River. Even when the trail deviates from the water's edge, the going is still pleasant, and you'll feel as though you've gotten away from the city.

This route connects with the paved Macomb Orchard Trail and the West Bloomfield Trail.
