“A fun, well-constructed trail through hardwood forest.
”
The Lake McMurtry Red Trail is a directional loop (7.6 mi). I initially went the wrong way (clockwise...living on the edge). This trail is set up to be counterclockwise. The official start is to the right of the trail sign to the east.
This is a fun trail with some good undulations and a few rock outcroppings. You'll pass a disk golf course and a few ponds. If there was a recent rain, you may even see a 10-foot waterfall flowing. This trail is favored by mountain bikers so just keep your eyes and ears open, but odds are, you'll have it to yourself.
There are three other trails in the system that all tie into each other so one could easily make this a 30+ mile hike.
