Overview

This rugged route isn't for the faint of heart! Requiring a backcountry bushwhack to reach the summit, you'll certainly earn the incredible views from the top.

Description

The trailhead begins behind the restaurant where you park your car. The first part of the Eastern Ajusco Summit Trail is signed with orange marks in the trees and rocks. These marks end when you leave the forest. After that you just follow the well-defined foot path to the summit. The forested part the trail is not complicated at all, but once you leave the dense tree cover, the going gets a little tougher because there are some loose rocks.

Before you get to the top, there are a few rocks that can be tricky in damp conditions and then you get to Pico del Aguila after that you descend a little before the last ascent to Cruz del Maquez. Both places have wonderful views of the city and the surroundings.

On the way down you, take the Western Ajusco Summit Trail down through a pine wood and after that, the trail deposits you into the same forest as the beginning.

When you leave the forest you go across a creek into a Boy Scout Camp and the Albergue Alpino Ajusco which leads to the Ajusco main road where you continue near the roadside for a couple of miles back to the car.

I really appreciate OP posting and marking this trail but I have to say it was not my favorite. It was very difficult, steep rocky scree! — 4h 00m
