Overview

This route is a fun loop of mostly pretty flat terrain. This is the only portion of the Tennessee Natchez Trace Trail that creates a loop, making it a great route.

Description

The Garrison Loop circles the Natchez Trace Parkway, and marks the northern beginnings of the Highland Rim Trail. The western portion of the loop has a narrow, lightly-used path that twice crosses Garrison Creek. You need to remove your hiking footwear to cross the creek, or you'll be finishing the way with wet feet!

At the northern part of the loop, you pass under the Natchez Trace as you approach the Garrison Creek picnic area. Here there are bathrooms, water fountains, and horse trailer parking. The eastern part of the loop has wider trails and less-dense woods for observing wildlife.

Dense vegetation after Inital trail split. Two stream crossings. Stay by the edge of the Forrest when you cross under the trace. 4.4mi
