Overview
A quick, six-ish mile lollipop loop, hitting Mount Hunger and White Rock. This hike is full of some challenging terrain and beautiful views.
Need to Know
Parts of this hike are steep and there are exposed sections.
Description
From the parking area follow the connector trail to the access road. Turn left and follow the road until the trail diverges and becomes a singletrack. At around 1.5 miles turn right to stay on the
Middlesex Trail. A steep climb (ropes for assistance at one point) will lead to the summit of Mount Hunger for an exposed rocky expanse with 360-degree views of the Greens to the west, and on a clear day the Adirondacks behind them and the Whites to the east.
Next follow the
Waterbury Trail down and just below the summit head south on the
White Rock Trail to follow the ridgeline to White Rock Mountain - another exposed summit with great views! Backtrack on the
White Rock Trail and shortly after turn right to head down the
Bob Kemp Trail. This will take you to the intersection with the
Middlesex Trail. Retrace your steps to return to the parking lot.
History & Background
This hike offers views of the northern Green Mountains that cannot be seen from any other mountain range!
