Description
This family-friendly loop trail within Tamarac National Wildlife Refuge features a little bit of everything in terms of wildlife habitats including grasslands, hardwood forest, and pine plantations. There is a great view from the short spur trail to the point out in Tamarac Lake (the island you see to the west is designated Wilderness). Fall colors make for nice viewing in late September - early October.
The western portion of the loop overlaps with the North Country National Scenic Trail, which continues on heading south and northeast from this loop. This loop is groomed for XC skiing in the winter so that visitors can enjoy the route in any season.
Flora & Fauna
Look for waterfowl in the spring and fall and a great diversity of songbirds year round.
