Features River/Creek

Family Friendly Information signs dot the trail - describing the forest, its flora and the denizens. Benches are also found along the trail near some of the signs, which makes this a great route for the whole family.

The trail closes when the park closes at dusk.

Description

The trailhead is in the parking lot of the Kathleen Edwards Library. To go counter-clockwise on the trail, look for the trail sign (and mailbox) directly across the parking lot from the library's front door. As you get into the woods, you'll slope right and downhill. If you would like to travel the other direction, work your way down the paved road to your right as you face the library. You'll pass a picnic shelter. Follow the paved portion about 1/10 of a mile. When the pavement curves left towards the private lakes, stay straight, and you'll be on the path.

Both directions are well marked. They use the white diamond as the blaze and it can be seen either way.

There are not any outstanding features of the trail. It is fairly utilitarian. It is a great place to come after work to get a woods fix. It is quiet despite an occasional glimpse of the backs of houses in nearby neighborhoods.

NOTE: I noticed a couple of tendrils of poison oak not far from the trail, not bad but be alert, especially with kids and pets.

Flora & Fauna

Pine Forest - trees, vines, squirrels, birds, occasional owl or deer. I noticed a couple of tendrils of poison oak not far from the trail, so use caution.

The wide, well-graded road that makes up the end of the loop hints at the exclusive private park that once occupied this location.

The "Haunted Woods" section of the trail goes through scrubby pines that creak and scrape against each other, and fall down pretty often from the looks of it. GoPro semi-fisheye effect makes it extra creepy.
