Family Friendly
A good trail for kids and beginners due to it's interesting landscape and low difficulty.
Description
A short gravel trail with tranquil views of the Sandy Bottom Wetland Preservation Area. Hikers can enter the trail from two different points on the much larger
Trillium Trail or by a crossing a small wooden bridge from the
Fallen Oak Trail. It is also connected to the western portion of the
Trillium Trail via the Whispering Pines Trail.
Unlike the other paths in the park, the Wetlands Trail lacks trees and can be quite hot and bright in the summer months. It's a good trail for those who want to escape the forested areas of the park and/or those who have an interest in the region's wildflowers.
Flora & Fauna
Various wildflowers grow along the trail. Lucky visitors may spot turtles, fish and other aquatic residents. The lack of trees and the presence of an elevated platform near the intersection with the
Fallen Oak Trail makes this an ideal spot for bird watchers.
