Family Friendly Fort Caroline is found along the Hammock Trail and an informative exhibit about the Northeastern Florida environment and how humans have interacted with it is found within the visitor center.

Description

Fort Caroline has a rich and storied history that memorializes the short-lived French presence in sixteenth century Florida. While exploring the area, hikers will be treated to stories of exploration, survival, religious disputes, territorial battles, and first contact between American Indians and Europeans. Be sure to stop by the visitor center for more information about the history of the area.

The Hammock Trail is a flat, wide, and relatively easy jaunt along the St. Johns River and through a beautifully wooded area. Enjoy the shade and be sure to take the time to take in the views at Fort Caroline.

Nice hike through the woods, shaded.

Great shady trails for those who do not want to get too hot or be in the sun that much. Good mix of sandy path versus boardwalk and packed dirt. 2mi
