Description
Start from one of the parking lots near the shores of Whangamata Bay and make your way up Kenirgg Road East, keeping an eye out for a right-hand turn onto Boojum Dell. Pass 5-6 houses on Boojum Dell before taking the first left onto a path which is soon enveloped by woods. Alternatively, follow the signage from the marina along the beach front which will lead you back up to the trail start.
Heading northward from Kinloch, the trail climbs steadily up through native bush and onto the headland, providing great views across the lake and back down into Kinloch. Past the top of the trail there is the option to hike the 9.5 kilometer
W2K Headland Loop Trail.
To stay on the W2K Trail, bypass the Headland Loop Trail, turn off and continue along the long, gradual descent through native bush into Whakaipo Bay. Along the way, there is also a short lookout trail that offers views of Kinloch and Whangamata Bay.
You can hike this trail in either direction (from Kinloch to Whakaipo Bay or from Whakaipo Bay to Kinloch).
