Dogs Leashed

Features Views

Less sensitive to breakup conditions than other trails because of exposure and gravel surface. Please be sure to keep dogs leashed when on research farm property since they have research animals. Since most of this trail goes through active university research farm fields, please stay on trail and off farm fields. Please keep dogs under control. Especially don't let your dogs poop in the fields. The grasses are used for forage for animals, and they don't like poop and doggie toys in their food.

Description

This is a gravel farm road around Johnson Lake, although there's only a few views of Johnson Lake along the way. While much of this trail is on university property, parts of the NE portion are on Mat-Su Borough property.

There are some gentle rolling hills. The surface is generally well drained most of the year and is one of the first trails to dry out in spring. It's firm enough to support moms with baby joggers. It also has some of the greatest diversity of users - hike, run, mtn bike, cart and pony, just to mention a few. The views of the mountains across the farm fields are some of the better views in the entire system. The best views are to the east.

Flora & Fauna

Much of the area has views of farm fields, and the rest has the typical upland forest vegetation.
