Description
From the trailhead in the Wolverton parking lot, the trail climbs a small hill where it shortly passes a junction leading downhill to the Lodgepole campground. Almost immediately after, the trail passes a second junction on the right for the
Long Meadow Loop. Listen for Wolverton Creek as you ascend, and watch for black bears in the early summer. Continue along the main trail through mixed conifer forest as it ascends steadily for 1.8 miles to the
Panther Gap Trail /
Alta Peak Trail junction. Not far before the junction, the trail crosses a small seasonal creek along which an abundance of wildflowers can be found in the early summer. At the junction the trail to the right leads first up to Panther Gap and then on to Alta Meadow and
Alta Peak, while the trail to the left leads to Pear Lake and the remainder of the
Lakes Trail.
Flora & Fauna
Look for corn lilies, ranger's buttons, and columbine along lush creek beds. Occasionally a bear can be spotted along this forested section of the trail.
