Overview
This is mostly a fire road hike with some cobblestone parts. It is a really fun out and back, since the views are spectacular, and you see the vegetation change as you climb.
At the end of the route, you come into a small community which is very friendly and welcoming. You can visit a small pond at the end of town or you can just head right back the way you came in.
Description
It is a short drive from Villas de Irapuato; you can park your car in Cuchicuato. This is an out-and-back route.
This hike starts in the middle of town, and you start off your journey heading up a dirt road right from the get go. Then, as you start to leave town, you continue on the road for probably 1.5 to 2k. Then you'll come up a paved bridge that crosses Highway 20D. Once across, you come on to a bit of cobblestone road that leads straight up.
When the cobblestone road ends, you get a nice, packed dirt road which will continue all the way up the hill and into the town of Tamaula.
The road here has great views when you are able to see past the thick vegetation on the sides of the road. It is around 8 km to reach Tamahula with approximately 490m of positive elevation gain.
Once you arrive in Tamahula, you can continue on the trail and arrive to a nice little water hole. Then, when ready, you can head back on the same road.
