This short and relatively easy out and back to Twin Lakes gives hikers a great taste of the area and can be done in a morning or afternoon. Bring a snack or a picnic to enjoy at the turnaround at Twin Lakes.

Twin Lakes is an intermediate stop along the Sheep Lake Trail. The Sheep Lake Trail #389 trailhead is well marked and within easy hiking distance of Brooklyn Lake Campground. The hike starts in an alpine meadow but soon enters a forest of subalpine spruce. You'll hike past many pot hole lakes and cross a small stream before leaving the woods and returning back to grassy alpine meadow. The trail can be muddy and, in places, it is rocky, but all-in-all this is an easy hike.

In mid-July we saw an abundance of glacier lilies, globeflowers, bog laurel, marsh marigolds, and columbine about to bloom. Looks like good country for moose, big horn sheep, and deer, but we only saw deer.
