Overview
This route includes a true summit, superlative views, and a very pleasant start in the larch forest. It is marked one-way, since the return options are many: other trails, down the lift (which will require a train or car shuttle), or make it an out and back.
Need to Know
The scenery is breathtaking, so plan a little extra time into your trip to take it all in.
Description
Head into the forest from the Tre le Champs carpark, switchbacking your way up and following signs for "Aiguillette via la crete". The trail is fairly rough and has some stairs, and with 2,500' vertical, you'll be glad to reach the summit and an enormous cairn at the top.
Enjoy the view of the entire Chamonix valley, and also the Swiss alps all the way to the Jungfrau region. From the summit either return the way you came or head down through the Col des Posettes to the top of the Vallorcine gondola. Descent via gondola will require a car shuttle or a hike back over the Col des Montets to get back to the starting point.
