This is a short trail with manageable elevation change for children.
Description
The two trailheads for this trail are located off of the
Fernwood Trail and the
Upland Trail Loop. There is moderate elevation climb with some natural staircases and 3 small bridges.
Unlike some of the other trails in the park, this trail is mostly dirt. Most of the trail is in the forest with a high canopy. From the trail you can see wildlife such as chipmunks, squirrels, and deer.
There is a section through an open field with many different kinds of wildflowers.
Most of this trail is part of the park's
Perimeter Loop. Also, this trail is the only way to reach the
Far Ridge Trail, which is accessed across a wide rocky stream that is at about the halfway point of the trail. That trail intersection is a great place to take a mid-hike rest! There are also a few dedicated benches along the trail if you'd like to rest or sit and enjoy the woods.
Flora & Fauna
Chipmunks, squirrels, deer, fish in the streams. Wildflowers in the field and along the trail.
