Description
There are two areas to the Sourland Mountain Preserve, one located on Mountain Road and the other located on Long Hill Road. This trail leaves from the main parking area of the more northern preserve, which has an entrance on Long Hill Road.
The trail itself is a steep climb or descent, depending on where you park, and which direction you're hiking. From the northeastern entrance on East Mountain Road, you'll enjoy the first half mile, which is flat, and then you'll have your work cut out for your as you ascend a large hill. This portion is short, but steep! The trail follows under an open canopy and generally there is an easy hiking surface. The biggest challenge is the steepness, but great views and a sense of accomplishment more than make up for it.
