Overview
The Jud Weibe Trail can be accessed from Tomboy Road or the north end of Aspen Street. This trail is generally clear of snow by mid-May. The trail climbs up and through aspen groves with clearings that provide amazing views of the valley and the surrounding peaks of Telluride. Expect loose gravel on the descent towards Tomboy Road.
Description
From the Aspen Street Trailhead, veer left over the Cornet Creek bridge and begin hiking the upward traverse. Immediate views of town will appear. The trail switchbacks a few times up through an aspen grove. Stay right when you see the option to take a trail on the left. Continue climbing to find a wooden bench to relax and take in the views. The trail continues upwards with switchbacks and eventually opens up to big views where you'll find another wooden bench. This is the high point of the trail.
Once you've stopped to admire the view, continue on and begin your descent, winding through aspens and arriving at upper Cornet Creek bridge. At this point, you'll begin to travel uphill for a very short time. Remember to stay right when you get to the intersection of Liberty Bell. The Jud Weibe trail spills out onto Tomboy Road, which has a lot of gravel so be careful not to slip. The Tomboy Road exit will land you at the top of Oak Street, which leads you right back into town. You can either head back to town, or make your way around the block to return to the Aspen Street Trailhead. Overall, this is a great hike!
