This ascent through the Dry River Wilderness was recently re-opened in 2014 after severe damage from the 2011's Hurricane Irene. Storm damage is still prevalent throughout the area and requires some scrambling through downed trees, especially above the Dry River Shelter. The trail can be difficult to follow at times as it follows small brooks for sections. The Dry River is fast moving, so the sounds of rushing water are never far away. The trail crosses the river on a suspension bridge early on and further up requires some rock-hopping at a crossing. This could be dangerous in the early part of the season but should be passable by mid-summer. Multiple small designated campsites off the trail are marked with signs, none of which can support larger groups. The Dry River Shelter (N44.228883, W-71.325533) is in great condition, providing a dry place to camp with a fire circle right next to the river. Follow the trail all the way up to the Lakes of the Clouds AMC Hut and follow Crawford Path North to Mount Washington or South through the Lower Presidential Range.
