Description

The trail begins near the intersection of the Mammoth Trail and the Iron Creek Trail. Surrounded by trees, the trail heads uphill along small streams and creeks to Alstot Lake. From here, the trail leaves the subalpine forest behind and begins the ascent through rocky alpine country. As the trail weaves its way uphill take your time as the trail is not well established and can be difficult to follow. Eventually, the trail climbs up to a saddle where the Ritter Range looms to the north. Take the trail east as it bends around the ridge and contours up to a small lake. Continue past the small lake and scramble up to the beautiful Iron Lake with Iron Mountain towering above.
